Our Journey

NWUC started working with formal and informal workers since 2015. After seven years work with formal and informal workers the federation organized a considerable number workers and unions under the banner of NWUC. Accordingly, it applied for registration to the authority of the country. NWUC was awarded registration on 25th January, 2021. Founding president and general secretary were Mrs. Sultana Begum and Mohammad Elias, both the leaders are young and energetic. They are involve in trade union movement more than 35 years. The federation is run by a group of devoted, young, honest and knowledgeable leaders on existing labor law. Last congress of the federation was held at the national press club auditorium. Leaders from different trade unions, civil society members spoke on the opening ceremony of the congress. Last congress elected 35 member Executive Committee. Mrs. sultana Begum and Mohammad Elias elected as president and general secretary respectively for three years.

Organizational Structure

The National Workers Unity Centre (NWUC) operates under a democratic structure, where leadership is elected by the members themselves.

NWUC

The organization is democratically run. It has a constitution duly approved by the Department of Labour, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The Federation is run by a group of young Women and Men. The organization functions as an workers organization free from political party influence. Thereafter the federation transformed itself into a trade union social movement. The result is that the expansion of the organization in different sectors was accelerated and now it’s existence is felt in 12 socio-economic sectors. NWUC now enjoys support of 2,35,568 members both paid and unpaid. These members are geographically distributed in 26 districts, having committees in all 26 districts but NWUC exists in forty districts.
